A group trip by train, with G Adventures

Lizet Wesselman - 16/04/2025

G Adventures, pioneer in sustainable group travel, today announced a new milestone: the launch of the Rail Collection. As many as 60 group rail tours are available, spread across 20 different countries worldwide. These train journeys are ideal for travellers who want to discover the world in a conscious, sustainable and meaningful way, and prefer not to fly to do so.

The Rail Collection is more than just a collection of train journeys: it is a logical extension of G Adventures’ philosophy, which has been committed to ‘community tourism’ for more than 30 years. This is all about trips that are not only a fantastic adventure for the traveller, but also have a lasting positive impact on local communities and the environment.

Sustainable travel, without concessions

At a time when sustainability is becoming increasingly important, both for the planet and for the modern traveller, this new train series comes at just the right time. ‘Rail travel can be so much more than just a mode of transportation; it’s a gateway into responsible cultural exploration, where the journey is just as enjoyable as the destination,’ said Yves Marceau, vice-president product at G Adventures.

Replacing air travel with train routes wherever possible not only drastically reduces CO₂ emissions, it also gives travellers the chance to really see what lies between the highlights. From picturesque villages in Europe to vast rice fields in Asia: by train you experience a country from the inside, instead of flying over it.

A new way to explore

The Rail Collection features trips using iconic routes such as the Shinkansen in Japan or night trains across India and Southeast Asia. Each trip is carefully crafted to bring together comfort, adventure and local connection. G Adventures’ signature small-group formula remains, as does the presence of the well-known ‘Chief Experience Officers’ (CEOs) who guide the trips.

Whether you choose the Back Roads of Japan, Highlights of Poland, or Epic Vietnam: Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, the train plays a central role each time – not just as a means of transport, but as an experience in itself. By travelling via smaller stations and less touristy routes, travellers get the chance to interact with local people and their daily lives.

Responsible travel

G Adventures has long been known as a forerunner in responsible tourism. With initiatives such as Planeterra, the Ripple Score and the principle of G for Good, the company is actively committed to social, environmental and economic sustainability. Every trip aims to spend as much money locally as possible, respect cultural integrity and protect nature.

The Rail Collection fits seamlessly with this vision. Travelling by train is not only one of the most environmentally friendly forms of transport, it is also part of a broader movement in the travel world: away from mass, fast travel and overtourism, and towards more conscious, slower and more connected travel.

Rail renaissance

The launch of the Rail Collection underlines the so-called Rail Renaissance underway in the travel industry. At a time of climate awareness and revaluation of slow travel, G Adventures offers an attractive alternative for those seeking adventure without losing sight of the planet.

The train journeys are available to book from now, with departure dates from April 2025. Whether travelling solo, as a couple or with friends, the Rail Collection offers a sustainable way for every type of traveller to see more of the world – and give something back at the same time.
