Since its successful launch in May 2023, the European Sleeper has already announced an expansion! This popular night train has only been running between Brussels and Berlin for 5 months, and is already going to extend the connection to Prague in March 2024. With stops in both Saxon Switzerland and Bohemian Switzerland, you can then easily and sustainably get away, to a beautiful natural area or beautiful Prague.
A new step in Prague’s accessibility
Until now, the train connection between the Netherlands and Prague was not an ideal connection. With the introduction of the high-speed train (the ICE) between Berlin and Amsterdam, the travel time between Prague and Amsterdam was shortened to about 10 to 12 hours. That’s still quite a long sit and not ideal to cover in one day.
But if you can cover this time sleeping, it is immediately a lot more attractive. 10 Hours of sleep ensures a good night’s sleep, so you arrive in Prague with the European Sleeper rested.
From cityscapes to rock formations
If you’re not looking for a city trip, you can wake up on the same train to visit the magnificent Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Board the train in the flat Flemish or Dutch countryside, and wake up the next day to an impressive mountain range stretching across the German and Czech border. After Berlin, the train now makes stops in Dresden, Bad Schandau, and Děčín, before reaching its final destination of Prague.
Elger van der Meer, co-founder: “Whether you love hiking, rock climbing, or just enjoying spectacular vistas, these new stops offer access to some of Central Europe’s most beautiful natural areas.”
A train to nature
With this expansion, European Sleeper positions itself not only as a sustainable alternative for city trips, but also as an easy gateway to nature. Travelers can now travel in comfort from the heart of the Benelux to the rugged beauty of central Europe.
Practical information
The extended service currently runs three times a week in both directions. Travellers can still choose from seats, couchettes and private sleeping compartments, with prices ranging from €49 for a seat to €199 for a private sleeping compartment.
